Why Sunday 23:00 HKT became our default snapshot
· A fixed weekend close reduces argument about which chart was ‘current’ when the review begins.
Hong Kong’s weekday evenings already carry enough noise — closing books, family dinner, another ping from an exchange. We tried midweek snapshots for a season and watched reviews dissolve into debates about which hour “counted.”
Sunday 23:00 HKT sits after most regional cash markets have settled for the weekend and before Monday’s first rush. It is arbitrary in the scientific sense, and that is the point: the window is a shared agreement, not a claim about the “true” price of anything.
Clients who travel still keep the same clock. The desktop monitor stamps the file in HKT even if the laptop is in Tokyo or London. When we open the review, we are arguing about allocation and contribution — not about whether Tuesday’s spike belonged to last week or this one.
